Is this the era of the Lazy kids??

When i was younger...prior to having a job, i was always finding ways to hustle up on some money. My mom didnt make too much (and pops wasnt around) so i was always game to do some work for somebody for some cash. I lived in the projects, so it was a lil hard to rake folks grass or cut it...cuz hell, it was done for them. So me and some friends would venture out to Metro-Smith Homes to find folks who wanted there leaves raked and grass cut. In the winter, same goes for searching for houses to shovel snow. I remember days where we got snowed in from school, i'd go out all day, in the cold..to come back with 20-30 bucks...was great!!!

In the last 3 years or so since i've been in my house, I can count on my hand the times i've have had kids come by for work. Are families in the inner city that well off that kids are content?? i think not. I think the video era is back stronger than ever. Tv seems to be the ultimate babysitter now adays. Parenting seem to be a lil softer than say 10-15 years ago. My nephew is a big cartoon fan. I want him to be well verse.......so for x mas...its BOOKS.....check em out!!

R.I.F. so go one step further and get him a library card!!!!! Build a foundation for reading and he will enjoy it. Maybe his uncle will gain a passion for it too, lol.

To continue my comments on the blog, I think a part of the problem is the perception that kids these days have. They don't feel the need to work because they have a sense of entitlement and that the world owes them something. I'm sure they didn't contribute any money on the Playstation 3 they are being baby-sat by or the XBox 360 for that matter.

If parents are not teaching their children responsibility, who is left to do it? We don't live in a community where everybody looked out for everybody. It has become more of a MYOB atmosphere and nobody is challenging the status quo.

When I lived in Pontiac, there were kids at our house regularly asking to rake the leaves and shovel the snow. And on those days, we paid them and they got their friends and did a good job as well. I'll do what I can to embrace their entrepreneurial spirits.

This is definitely the era of lazy azz kids...but I do have to blame the parents too. It's not like parents have so much more money though, yet the parents go into debt and destroy their credit giving their children every damn thing...especially when Christmas rolls around.

When I was a kid, we had ONE TV for the ENTIRE apt. It had pliers on the knob. The antenna had foil on it, until that broke and we went with a wire clothes hanger for an antenna. THAT and going outside was our form of entertainment. You wanted to play a game...my mother didn't go out and buy one. You took your azz outside. You got a can, put it in the middle of the sidewalk, and played "steal the bacon", or "hot peas and butter", played "Skelly" or we jumped rope, etc.

I had a job since I was 13, but now days...if i was a kid I wouldn't work either. Everything they need is right in their room.

I talk a lot of shyt for someone who doesn't have kids! LOL!
